John Condon was an Irish teenager who served in the British Army during World War I. He is notable for being one of the youngest soldiers to die during the war, at the age of 14. Condon joined the army in August 1913, lying about his age, and was sent to the Western Front in 1915. He was killed in action on May 24, 1915, during the Second Battle of Ypres, and is buried in Belgium. Condon's death became widely publicized in Britain, and he became a symbol of the tragic loss of young lives in the war. His grave in Flanders has become a pilgrimage site for visitors honoring the memory of those who died in the conflict.
